Making Mom’s Home Safe for Her(a.k.a. Staying in Your Own Home after 65)maintaining a safe, active and independent lifestyle for your parents (or yourself)

Brusco will help you to create and maintain a safe, active and independent lifestyle by remodeling the home you or you family already owns, so that you can remain in the home you love.

Despite the misconception of being only about ugly grab bars and wheel chair ramps, aging-in-place is more about safety and ease of use for all ages from 1 to 101. Home modifications or home alterations, when done by skilled professionals, can result in a more user-friendly and lower-maintenance home that looks beautiful.

Warwick, Rhode Island Universal Design (One Floor Living) Project

Our one floor living project in Warwick was featured in Rhode Island Monthly’s Home Design Magazine in 2012 as an example of a Universal Design home created by a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) / AARP Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Sam Brusco. Brusco is also an NAHB Active Adult Housing Specialist professional remodeler. Click here to read the article.

This couple has owned their home near Sandy Lane in Warwick for almost 30 years. Since they retired and since the birth of their granddaughter, they have wanted to make this house their forever-home. Therefore, Brusco Design & Renovation created a comfortable & safe, one-floor-living home for them.

1.Create a one floor living environment with the laundry on the first floor using Universal Design principles
2.Expand the home by creating a new family room in the garage that’s only used for storage (the truck didn’t even fit)
3.Save money on heating & cooling costs by creating a super-insulated family room that they will use most of the day, every day AND replace the old furnace with a high-efficiency unit (green building)
4.Renovate the kitchen and open the wall to the front room
5.Turn that front room into the new dining room so that family & friends can attend holiday dinners here
6.Make access to the back yard and deck easier
